About this blog

After a disappoing game to the Mets. Note that I'm not cheesing

Welcome to my blog!  My name is Charles and I’m 27 years old.  This blog is primarily about sports– The Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles to be exact.  As for me, I am a huge Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles fan, but I was born and raised in New York.  If you want to know why check out my page: “A Native New Yorker Who Likes Philadelphia Sports, Why?”

The name of the blog was “RATS!!” for the frustration that Philadelphia sports fans had to deal with over the years, but I decided to change the name of it since the blog’s content starting this season should be different.  When I was deciding the new name for this blog, I decided to come up with some word play.  For a moment, it was “Charlie’s Phun Phacts” since the “ph” for an “f” was a common word play when referring to the Phillies and Philadelphia.  I also threw in the word “Liberty” since I’m from New York, but happens to like Philadelphia teams.  Both cities have tourist attractions with the word “Liberty” (Statue of Liberty; Liberty Bell).  So I felt like linking the 2 nearby cities together with that word.  ”Liberty” is defined by “freedom from control, interference, obligation, restriction,hampering conditions, etc.; power or right of doing,thinking, speaking, etc., according to choice.” (dictionary.com)  So even though I was born and raised in New York, I have the right (or liberty) to like Philadelpha teams and to right a blog with stats which are interesting.

I am also a huge stats person; some people call me the “Charles Sports Beureau”.  There would be times when I would post some stats which you might find odd and/or interesting (i.e. the Phillies record when they play on FOX on a Saturday and face a lefty).  Also if you look at the bottom of my baseball recaps, you will notice my “caught/missed” split.  That is the record for Phillies games that I catch and those I miss.  At the bottom of the split is a number which is the differential between caught and missed games.  If I miss a game, I just listen to the archive via MLB Gameday Audio (I don’t have MLB TV yet for 2 reasons, 1. $$, and 2. Scott Franzke/ Jim Jackson, and Larry Andersen > T-Mac and Wheels/Sarge.

P.S. I get my stats from a neat site which is www.baseball-reference.com and pro-football-reference.com.  I use mlb.com as well as nfl.com too.  The Phillies game notes which I get from mlb.com come in handy as well.  There is another website which I discovered in the 2011 offseason called shrpsports.com.  That site does not have baseball/football boxscores like the ___-reference sites have but it shows some facinating information which I will be using for my baseball series previews this year.

This is all I have for now, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the blog!

  1. Thanks for the info about the Pirates winning the WS the first year at Forbes Field. I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, but never knew that fact.
